Kickstarter: Sioeye Live Streaming 4G LTE Action Cam

In the age of the Selfie, can this camera do any wrong? I hope not.

This project on Kickstater is a camera that streams your action footage, sort of like a Periscope or Meerkat, to a cloud system that host your streams, allowing people to see what you are doing.

Named, the Sioeye Iris4G, it actually pairs the camera to a LTE connection using a SIM card to stream. Profile and streams can be viewed on a iOS device through an app and it won't take a genius to figure out a working Android version for this.

Pairing your smart device will alternatively give you some control over your camera, probably tweak the settings or something but beyond that, the camera is ready to go.

The OSD, on-screen display, also allows you to show metadata such as speed and altitude, which you can share but hey, if you just want to broadcast your own porn, who is to say you won't need such data?

If the quality is anything to go by, it's not great. There is 4K capture but at only 30fps. So if you are shooting action scenes, there would be a noticeable blur. Everything works fine in 1080p though. Still photography is still possible with 18 megapixels output.

Cloud support is vital but if you don't have it, then the service could be DOA. The cloud service for streaming is only free for the first year. This is probably the main problem with it as the cloud streaming at this juncture is fixed. You can't connect to a service like Periscope or Meerkat should the Sioeye Iris cloud model go bust. The retail price of this camera will be US$499 with a year's worth of cloud streaming.

The problem with this model is of course action, takes place in the wilderness be it kayaking in the river or sea or throwing yourself off a snow covered mountain slope. So without a 3G or 4G signal, your Sioeye Iris camera is a waste of money.
